VESTAL -- Diamond Visionics announced The
Boeing Co. has bought a license to use its
GenesisRTX three-dimensional visualization
software to train pilots across North America.
The local company, which employs about 20
people, is touting the order as "a tremendous
validation" of its capabilities and credibility in the
industry, particularly because Boeing is one of the
largest aerospace companies in the world.
Two software engineers have been hired as a result,
President Dave Gdovin said. The company expects
to hire two more software engineers in the coming
months. He declined to elaborate on the monetary
value of the licensing agreement.
Boeing representatives could not be immediately
reached for comment.
Gdovin said Boeing is using the software to create
an "out-the-window view for a pilot in a simulation
and training environment."
Boeing's use of the software can extend across a
variety of applications, including commercial and
military, fast jets, wide-body aircraft and
helicopters, he said.
The software constructs complex 3-D scenes using
geographic information system (GIS) source data in
real-time, without needing additional terrain
optimization software, according to Diamond
Visionics. The content of the scene changes as fast
as the source data can be collected.
The U.S. Navy also is a customer, using GenesisRTX
to train its pilots, Gdovin said.
"We're trying to create the world out there in virtual
space," he said. "We're trying to create the sky,
valleys, buildings, cities, trees, the vehicles and
people."
Diamond Visionics, at 400 Plaza Drive, was founded
in 1996. The company produces 3-D visualization,
image generation and interactive source editing
tools for the operational and simulation markets.
