Binghamton University Among Princeton Review's Top Colleges

Binghamton University has once again appeared among the top colleges in the country in The Princeton Review's annual college rankings.
Binghamton University has once again appeared among the top colleges in the country in The Princeton Review's annual college rankings.
The university, named one of the 373 top colleges, was acknowledged for its green initiative and campus newspaper, Pipe Dream, which was named the 20th best college newspaper. Yale University's newspaper was No. 1.
"It is correct that Binghamton University is listed among the best colleges in American higher education because we are, and that is a consequence of our commitment to high quality education," BU interim President C. Peter Magrath said in a prepared statement.
The university was rated as one of 18 colleges in the nation, and the only SUNY school, to receive the highest score on the third annual "green rating" for campus environmentally related policies, practices and academic offerings. BU also appeared on the list last year.
The green rating was judged on whether the school's students have a campus and quality of life that is healthy and sustainable, how well the school is preparing its students for employment and citizenship defined by environmental challenges and the school's overall commitment to environmental issues.
Among 12,000 college applicants and parents of applicants The Princeton Review surveyed this year, 64 respondents said they would value having information about a college's commitment to that environment. Of that group, 23 percent said that information would "very much" impact their decision to apply or attend a school.
The lists are based on surveys of 122,000 students -- about 325 per campus -- attending the colleges.
